AAUW of ALBANY

Contacts:

The Albany branch was chartered December 10, 1932 and has been continuously active since that date.  We currently have 31 members with the majority from Albany and a few from Lebanon and surrounding eastern Linn County.  If interested in joining our Albany branch, you may contact the Membership VP, Judy Scott.  Alternately, you may complete the membership form at the end of this page.

MEETINGS:

Programs covered are a variety of topics with scheduled speakers and some programs with a more “hands on” approach.  Guests are always welcome.

PROJECTS:

Education

  • Sponsor a middle school girl to the Albany Parks & Recreation camp called "Rosie the Riveter." That camp helps girls learn to use tools and make repairs, which that helps build self-confidence.

Public Policy

  • Co-sponsor community forums on candidates or state ballot measures with the League of Women Voters each fall.

CONTRIBUTIONS:

  • We support the AAUW Educational Foundation and AAUW Legal Advocacy Fund

MEMBER INTEREST GROUPS:

  • Literature (members read a different book each month and meet monthly for lively discussions)
  • Great Decisions (reading & discussion of current international & domestic issues)
  • Lunch About Town (a no-host lunch group at a different restaurant each month)

The back row includes the branch president, Tanya Morgenstern (in the white sweatshirt) and Edie Orner, past president (in black and whose beach home they were visiting on that day). On the log (from left) are Rita Powell, Gail Gerdemann, Liz Evans, and Colleen Keller.
